Eastland Woolen Closed - 1996

The Eastland Woolen Mill succumbed to bankruptcy and closed in 1996. A woolen mill had been in operation on the site for 84 years. The focus of the local economy for many years, the building quickly became know as that "green monster". Tremendous levels of contamination were discovered in the soil and water around the mill. In a $10 million project the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will now demolish the building and excavate the polluted soil to remove the contamination.
