In yesterday's photo you may have noticed the portraits in the hallway of the Stewart Library Building. This photograph of Levi Merrick Stewart hangs near the front door. Levi was born in 1827 and died in 1910. He built the library building in 1898 at a cost of $65,000. The building was presented to the town of Corinna in memory of his parents, Rev. David and Eliza Stewart. The library first opened for circulation in 1898 with 3,268 volumes, most donated by Mr. Stewart. John Howard Winchester, a nephew of Levi Stewart, was the first librarian.
