Soil decontamination bed

The contaminated soil is laid in beds, like the one pictured above, and heated for about 7 days under a sealed cover. The contamination comes out of the soil with the heated air. The hot air is removed through the pipe running along the left side and filtered to capture the chemicals. In this photo the bucket loader is removing a batch of soil that has just completed the process. If tests show that this cleaned soil is safe, it will be used as fill in Area 1.
